Blog Evaluations
Blogs take up just a small section of the World Wide Web. For a person’s blog to be noticed out of the many other blogs out there, it must be attractive in looks and style, it must be organized well, and it must have articles with eye catching titles. Luckily for me, I found three blogs that fit this description: Chasing My Voice, Have At It, and iThink.
Chasing My Voice, what exactly does this mean? Well, I would ask C. Brown, because this is the title of her blog. It’s catchy, but to have a successful blog, you need more than that. Luckily for Brown, more doesn’t seem to be a problem. Her blog is filled with many posts that draw my attention just from reading the title, like her essay entitled Isn’t Having a Smoking Section in a Restaurant like Having a Peeing Section in a Pool? Now I don’t know about you, but this title not only makes me want to read more by Brown, it makes me laugh. Another essay she wrote was about my favorite clothing store Abercrombie. I definitely want to hear what she has to say about their Indecent Exposure…Aisle Two! Catchy titles are only part of a good blog. A blog site needs to be easy to navigate; otherwise, I’m going to have a hard time finding all the interesting stories. Brown has all of her posts located under categories on the right side of her blog, and if you want to access her e-portfolio, it’s just a click away. It doesn’t take a genius to do that.
Now if you’re looking for some good advice, I would check out Have At It. M. Neaville’s blog has some very good posts on topics that many people encounter everyday. For example, almost everyone at some point in their life has questioned the way they look. In How to Look Good Naked, Neaville makes a point that everyone is beautiful, no matter what they eat or their jean size. Another aspect of Neaville’s blog that I like is how she incorporated a video into one of her posts. You’ve seen this video on YouTube and heard people talk about it at school. That’s right, it’s Old Greg. Like Neaville says, Old Greg shows that if you have to ask somebody if they love you, they probably don’t. She also points out that we’re young. Why should we be searching for a person to spend the rest of our life with now? Other post topics on Have At It include adoption and getting vaccinated for the flu. Overall, Neaville hit the head of the nail of problems people face each day.
This next blog is pure genius. iThink, created by J.M. Poff, shows the hard work of a dedicated student. Poff uses technology to enhance the appearance of his blog. He has produced his own graphics to go along with most of his posts, and everything is easy to find with his pull down toolbar at the top of the page. He even has a section called Hot Topics were I can go to read a preview of all his posts. If I find one I think is interesting, I can click on it to read the whole story. One of my favorite posts by Poff is Get out of my ‘Face.’ He is clever to pick a topic like this because it relates to many teens. Facebook and school, two things we encounter almost everyday. For those that party outside of school, they better be careful of what they put on facebook because their school could be getting involved more than they would like. I enjoyed exploring Poff’s blog because of the unique details and interesting stories.
Well, Chasing My Voice, Have At It, and iThink have definitely inspired me. Now, I am going to try and make my blog just as good as theirs. It may take hard work and lots of time, but in the long run, it will be rewarding to know my blog can stand up with the best.
